Homeowner Appliance Repair


This is a 4 hour course, held on Saturdays, designed to give the homeowner the knowledge and confidence to perform their own household appliance repair and maintenance, as well as make an informed decision on whether it is time to call a professional or when it is not cost effective to fix an appliance.

Course Objectives:
1)   Demonstrate the proper use of electrical test equipment to measure the following:
   •     AC & DC voltage
   •     AC & DC current
   •     Resistance
   •     Insulation resistance to ground
   •    Open, shorted and grounded circuits


2)  Identify the difference between wiring diagrams and electrical schematics


3)  Identify symbols on wiring diagrams and electrical schematics


4)  Identify common electrical / electronic components


5)   State the principles of operation for the following appliances:


• Dryer                       • Dishwasher
• Washing Machine     • Microwave
• Refrigerator              • Range


6)   Troubleshoot 3 out of the 6 appliances below:


• Dryer                       • Dishwasher
• Washing Machine     • Microwave
• Refrigerator              • Range
